OnAllBands Year in Review: A Look Back at 2024

As we bid farewell to another sensational ham radio year, all of us at OnAllBands wish you and yours the very best in 2025.

It will be a special year for DX Engineering—the 25th anniversary of a company committed to helping today’s operators enjoy the fun, excitement, and usefulness of amateur radio, while ensuring that the next generation of amateurs gets the support they need to thrive on the air.

With this in mind, we offer you this New Year’s wish:

May your list of DXCC wanted entities dwindle, your contest rankings rise, your emergency stations continue to serve, your rag-chews foster lifelong friendships, and your logbooks fill with QSOs, spreading goodwill everywhere on the amateur bands.

2024: The Year That Was

DX Engineering’s commitment to “giving back” to the ham radio community—a theme displayed on the cover of the 2024 DX Engineering Amateur Radio Products Catalog (below)—manifested itself in several important ways, from assisting youth operators to sponsoring DXpeditions that put rare entities in reach for hams around the world.

Here are a few of the DXpeditions that relied on equipment provided by DX Engineering, from DX Engineering coaxial cable to DVA Dual Vertical Array Systems:

Youth Support

For the second year in a row, Tim Duffy, K3LR, DX Engineering CEO, hosted participants in the Dave Kalter Memorial Youth DX Adventure, a program that has sent amateurs ages 12-17 to stations around the world since its founding in 2010. On July 27, Ian Alkema, KI8AN; Lilly Colón, W8LIL; Katie Campbell, KE8LQR; and Grace Papay, K8LG, operated in the 2024 RSGB IOTA contest from the K3LR superstation in western Pennsylvania.

In May 2024, students from the Advanced Technology Group of the Harbor Creek School District in Harborcreek, Pennsylvania, who had the rare opportunity to talk with European Space Agency astronaut Andreas Mogensen, KG5GCZ, in December 2023, were treated to another exciting opportunity to experience the best in amateur radio—an up-close look at the K3LR superstation.

Icom Transceiver Donations

DX Engineering teamed up with Icom America to donate transceivers to help upgrade stations and emergency operations at home and abroad:

  • In the wake of Hurricane Helene, DX Engineering and Icom America donated an Icom IC-9700 to Dan Gitro, K2DMG, as a thank you for his tireless work to relay critical emergency messages from his shack in Mooresville, North Carolina. He was running the emergency net on the Mt. Mitchell repeater in Iredell County.

WRTC UK 2026 Sponsorship

DX Engineering elevated its sponsorship of the 2026 World Radiosport Team Championshipm (WRTC) to Gold status, showing its ongoing commitment to an event that shines a bright spotlight on the very best in amateur radio. The quadrennial contest, featuring the top contesters from around the world, is scheduled for July 2026 in the United Kingdom.

Contest University, Four Days in May, and Dayton Hamvention®

It was another packed house at the Hope Hotel in Dayton for the 15th edition of Contest University, hosted by Tim Duffy, K3LR. DX Engineering was well represented at the Four Days in May Vendor Showcase and followed that with the company’s largest presence ever at Dayton Hamvention.

Silent Key

Finally, we take a moment to remember audio pioneer and friend of DX Engineering Bob Heil, K9EID, who became a silent key on February 28, 2024 after an illustrious career in the music world and decades of promoting amateur radio. He is greatly missed.
