OnAllBands would like to give a shout out to blogger H. Ward Silver, NØAX, winner of January 2020’s QST Cover Plaque Award given for the most popular article in each issue of the magazine. His excellent article, “Untangling the Decibel Dilemma,” earned him the honor, which is determined by a vote of ARRL members on the QST Cover Plaque Poll web page.
A formidable contester, DXer, and mentor of young Hams, Ward is one of Ham Radio’s true ambassadors. He is an inductee in the CQ Contest Hall of Fame, founder of the World Radiosport Team Championship (WRTC), 2008 recipient of Dayton Hamvention’s Ham of the Year award, and author of numerous books about the hobby, including Ham Radio for Dummies, 3rd Edition, and ARRL’s Grounding and Bonding for the Radio Amateur. Past attendees of Hamvention might also recognize him as the mandolinist/parody-song composer of the Spurious Emissions band.
