Get a Better Handle on Your Yaesu FT-891 with DX Engineering Custom Radio Side Rails

With the growing popularity of ham radio activities in the great outdoors, the team of amateur operators at DX Engineering has been hard at work finding ways to make your POTA, SOTA, and IOTA adventures as easy and enjoyable as possible, while also protecting your critical equipment.

The DX Engineering RSR-891 Radio Side Rail Kit is the latest addition to the company’s lineup of gear for portable ops. The custom-designed rails are made for easy carrying of yourYaesu FT-891 mobile transceiver. Additionally, the rails protect the transceiver’s front and rear panels from damage when toted to a park, hilltop, or backyard for portable use. Even if you only use the rails while in the radio room, they provide an easier way to tune by allowing your hand/fingers a place to rest while you tune the frequency knob.

The sturdy rails are manufactured out of lightweight, impact-resistant black polymer. The rails serve as handles at the front and are flared outward to retain normal access to the controls. Their curved shape at the back panel makes it easier to slip the transceiver into a backpack.

The rails feature the appropriate cutouts for ventilation and connections. Special contours allow for quick and easy hook and loop strap mounting of an automatic antenna tuner or other accessory.

The kit includes:

  • Two Radio Side Rails
  • Four M4 thumb screws so rail attachments can be temporary or long-term
  • Four M4 socket head cap screws
  • Four M4 flat washers
  • 2.5mm Allen wrench
  • Extra protection provided by eight rubber bumpers which are user installed into the four recessed holes on the inside surfaces of each side rail before attachment to the radio

Important! Hand tighten the M4 thumb screws. The torque specification for these fasteners is a maximum of 10 inch-pounds. It is crucial not to exceed this specification. Doing so may cause internal damage to the radio. Use only the provided fasteners. They have been specifically selected to prevent internal damage to the transceiver.
