A native of Missouri, N5TJ began contesting as K4VX/0. His distinguished on-air achievements include three World Radiosport Team Championship (WRTC) gold medals (1996, 2000, and 2002) that he won with partner Dan Street, K1TO. He also won a WRTC bronze medal in 1990. He holds the current SOABHP world record in CQWW SSB, set at EA8BH in 1999. He held the record in CQWW CW in the same category from 2000-2019.

The Austin, Texas, resident is also an avid grid square chaser on 6 meters. He only needs a handful of grid squares to have all 488 to earn the Fred Fish Memorial Award. He has achieved this using only a KPA500 amplifier and a Moxon antenna.

Watch Tim Duffy, K3LR, DX Engineering CEO, interview N5TJ in the video below about working as a DX Engineering customer/technical support specialist, fun with 6 meters, his pursuit of 488 grids, and products available at DXEngineering.com, including the RigSelect Pro Transceiver Switch and SO2R Controller, and Carlson Heavy-Duty 25G Hinged Tower Base Plate and Roof-Mounted Antenna Towers.
