With the month of May in the rearview, let’s look ahead to some of the DXing opportunities for June. As always, we’ll be featuring QSL cards from the avid DXCC chasers at DX Engineering, who are always ready to help you upgrade your stations so you can capture the rare ones. Here are a few DXpeditions to circle on your calendar:
Rwanda
The 9X2AW DXpedition by DF2WO from Kigali is scheduled to continue until June 14. DF2WO is operating from 160-10M in CW, SSB, and Digital. Kigali—Rwanda’s largest city—has a population of 1.7 million and has stood as the country’s capital since Rwanda’s independence from Belgium in 1962. At that time, Kigali had a population of only 6,000. Rwanda was the 127th Most-Wanted DXCC Entity per Clublog as of April.
David, K8DV, DX Engineering customer/technical support specialist, contacted the 9X0R DXpedition in March 2008 on 40/30/20/17/15/12M CW; 20/17/15M SSB; and 20M RTTY. The 12-member 9X0R team recorded 62,680 QSOs during 11 days of operation.
Maldives
The 8Q7VJ DXpedition by HB9VCJ from Ookolhufinolhu, Lhaviyani Atoll is scheduled to continue until June 4, so there’s still a chance to put the Republic of Maldives in your log this month. With a population of around 579,000, this South Asian archipelago in the Indian Ocean between Sri Lanka and India features 26 atolls that stretch across the equator. Maldives was the 153rd Most-Wanted DXCC Entity per Clublog as of April.
Tom KB8UUZ, DX Engineering technical writer, reached the 2014 8Q7NC DXpedition by F6BGC on 17M RTTY.
British Virgin Islands
The VP2V DXpedition by W9DR from Anegada is scheduled to run from June 24-29. You can try to make contact with this 6M-only operation on FT8, Q65 satellite, SSB and CW. Anegada is the northernmost of the British Virgin Islands. With a population of around 285, it is the most sparsely populated island of the main islands in this group, while being the second largest at 15 square miles. The number of people on Anegada virtually doubles during the tourist season, as it is a popular spot for fishing excursions. Access to the island is provided via a small airport, ferries, and private boats. The British Virgin Islands was the 119th Most-Wanted DXCC Entity per Clublog as of April.
K8DV contacted VP2V/AA7V in November 2012 on 160M CW. In October 2008, he reached VP2V/K9NW on 17M CW.

Editor’s Note: Every month, DX Engineering features QSL cards from our team members’ personal collections. To highlight upcoming DXpeditions, we’ll be displaying a few of our favorite cards along with details about what it took to make these contacts. We’re excited to share some of the special cards pulled from the thousands we’ve received over the years. We look forward to seeing your cards as well!
