Editor’s Note: Every month, DX Engineering features QSL cards from our team members’ personal collections. To highlight upcoming DXpeditions, we’ll be displaying a few of our favorite cards along with details about what it took to make these contacts. We’re excited to share some of the special cards pulled from the thousands we’ve received over the years. We look forward to seeing your cards as well!
Principality of Monaco (3A) QRV in February
Monaco, the world’s second smallest (.81 square miles) sovereign state behind Vatican City, will be active from February 24 to March 2. F4FRL (3A/F4FRL) and F5RBB (3A/F5RBB) will be giving Hams around the globe the chance to make this microstate on the French Riviera an All Time New One on 40 to 20M SSB and digital. As of January, Monaco was the 163rd Most Wanted DCXX Entity per Clublog.
The 499-acre casino-laden “Billionaire’s Playground” (smaller than New York City’s Central Park) has a population of 38,000 (one-third of them millionaires), making it one of the densest countries on the planet. How small is Monaco? Lichtenstein is 80 times larger—that’s how small. But for Hams suffering from a dwindling number of DXing opportunities due to COVID-19, Monaco could be a very big deal this February.
Here are some of the QSL cards collected by the active operators at DX Engineering over the years:
Dave, K8DV, DX Engineering technical/customer support specialist, reached Laura, 3A2MD in 2009 on 20M CW.
Tom, KB8UUZ, DX Engineering technical writer, made a QSO with 3A/JH1NBN on 20M SSB in 2016. The QSL card features the famous Monte Carlo Casino. Not exactly Bouvet Island, is it?
Mark, W8BBQ, DX Engineering technical/customer support specialist, reached the 2012 3A2MW DXpedition from Monaco on 17 and 15M CW.
