For many Hams, ARRL Field Day was the event where they were first exposed to HF operating, setting up antennas and stations, simplex SSB VHF (not FM repeater operation), and contest-style contacts. It is a time of fellowship and learning that is impossible to replace. But this year we may have to take a break from the normal mode of club-sponsored operations, but we do not have to skip this premier summer radio activity.
Lots of Hams may be doing Field Day on their own this year, so I have put together a slideshow presentation, “Field Day in Social Distancing.” It’s intended to provide clubs that will not be doing a traditional Field Day with ideas to encourage individual club members to take part with their own operations. Also note that the ARRL has approved two temporary rule waivers for Field Day 2020:
- Class D stations may work all other Field Day stations, including other Class D stations, for points.
- An aggregate club score will be published, which will be the sum of all individual entries indicating a specific club (similar to the aggregate score totals used in ARRL affiliated club competitions). Get complete details here.
