Word of the Day: WAC (Worked All Continents Award)

If you’re relatively new to DXing, the thought of “Working the World” may seem daunting. Yes, it may be a “Small World After All” in Disney-speak, but in Ham terminology, contacting 340 DXCC entities (and many thousands of island groups) is hardly a small task. A great place to start your quest is by pursuing the WAC—Worked All Continents Award. Sponsored by the International Amateur Radio Union (IARU), Hams can receive the honor by working and confirming contacts with North America, South America, Oceania, Asia, Europe, and Africa. Participants can earn basic, CW, phone, image, digital, and satellite certificates. Get on the air during a busy worldwide DX contest and the award could be yours in no time.

Once you’ve worked all continents, the next step is the more ambitious Five-Band Worked All Continents Award. This requires working all continents on 80, 40, 20, 15, and 10 meters. Endorsements are available for the remaining amateur bands, except for 60 meters.
