Editor’s Note: Every month, DX Engineering features QSL cards from our team members’ personal collections. To highlight upcoming DXpeditions, we’ll be displaying a few of our favorite cards along with details about what it took to make these contacts. We’re excited to share some of the special cards pulled from the thousands we’ve received over the years. We look forward to seeing your cards as well!
South Orkney Islands QRV in February
The wait is almost over! If you’re like the Hams at DX Engineering, you’ve had your calendar marked for months in anticipation of the 2020 VP8PJ South Orkney Islands DXpedition scheduled for February 20 to March 5. As a proud sponsor of this huge undertaking, the team at DX Engineering is honored to have our equipment (from radial wire kits to phased array quarter wave tuned cables) making the trip to the northeast tip of the Antarctic Peninsula along with the experienced Perseverance DX Group.
The team will be operating in CW, SSB, RTTY, and FT8. Here’s a look at the VP8PJ band plan.
This marks the first major activation of South Orkney Islands since VP8ORK’s “DXpedition of the Year” in January/February 2011. While South Orkney Islands will be an All Time New One for most of us at DX Engineering (it is the 16th most-wanted DXCC entity after all!), two of our customer/technical support specialists, Mark, W8BBQ, and George, K3GP, scored this attractive QSL card from VP8ORK. The VP8ORK DXpedition was on the air for 12 days, recording 63,000 QSOs (17,699 unique)—1,906 of which were on 160 meters.
George, K3GP, made contact on 80M, 40M, 30M, and 20M CW; 30M RTTY; and 40M, 20M, and 15M SSB. Mark, W8BBQ, reached the island on 80M, 40M, 20M, 17M, 15M, and 12M.
On behalf of all of us at DX Engineering, here’s wishing everyone—from the intrepid VP8PJ team to our fellow chasers—the best of luck. See you in the pileups!
